American Red Cross and BloodSource: Partners in Community Service
The Sacramento Sierra Chapter of the American Red Cross does not provide blood services in this region however it partners with BloodSource to educate and encourage people to donate blood. Donating blood is an important part of the chapter's preparedness mission and we encourage you to call 866-822-5663 for local and convenient blood donation centers and mobile drives.
Any Red Cross supporter, adult or teenager, at any location can have their blood donation noted in a Red Cross donor club. Please remember to say that you are donating on behalf of the American Red Cross.

"Be the Match" Marrow Registry: Joining the Be the Match marrow registry is easy and free; it just take a good faith commitment to donate marrow/blood stem cells to a patient if found to be a match, a little paperwork and a simple swab of the inside of the cheek. You can join online or at BloodSource centers. If joining online, go to Be The Match and use the code January10, February10, ... etc. when joining (A swab kit will be sent to your home). Registrants with diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds are especially needed since marrow donors often come from similar racial/ethnic backgrounds as the patients they match.
About Blood Donation: Donating blood is safe, easy and takes about an hour. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with a signed BloodSource parental consent form (www.bloodsource.org/HowYouCanHelp/HighSchoolProgram) and be generally healthy. There is no upper age limit for blood donations.
